downtown1.jpgOn May 23rd, at 7pm at the County Building, Dr. James Segedy from Ball State University's Department of Urban Planning presented the Downtown Design Guidelines that he and his team had been working on for the Town's Beautification Committee. Shown below are a few examples of the conceptual planning that has been put together for us. Think of it as ideas for the future.

The design and building guildlines are to serve as recommendations for improvements to the buildings in Fowler's Downtown. These recommendations are not intended to draw attention to particular individuals or point fingers at building owners rather identify ways to improve their buildings and prioritize improvements projects.Long-term planning will be a key element in downtown improvements.

In this example, facades have been restored to a manner resembling their original appearance. Angled parking is introduced to expand available spaces in light of a generous street width. Historic lighting and banners provide orientation and safety while contributing to the overall character. With a little effort, improvements can also be made to rear, south facing facades of Fifth Street bussinesses, as shown here. Stay tuned for more on the downtown project. Things are moving along!
