The Fowler Street Department has a diversity of responsibilities. These include paving, repair and maintenance of 21.06 miles of roads; erecting and maintaining signs; debris removal and grass cutting on all rights of way; yard waste and leaf collection; snow removal; animal control and a garage for maintenance of town vehicles. This is accomplished with a crew of only 3 people.

The Street Department has the most visible impact on Fowler residents and visitors and receives frequent praise for the good service provided. The Street Department's duties are dictated by the seasons. In the winter all streets in the city are plowed and salted. As spring approaches, the department is responsible for a number of vital duties, including street resurfacing, weed control, road re-painting and street sweeping. The Department's manpower and equipment are also used, when needed, for flood control, underground construction and other unexpected occurrences within the city.
