The Fowler Sewer Department operates and maintains over 15 miles of collection system and six pump stations, which empty into the Fowler Waste Water Facility. The Town of Fowler Wastewater Treatment Facility is located west of town off of Adway Road. In the past, completed a major renovation which has increased it's capacity to 750,000 million gallon per day. It's 2000 average annual flow was 380,000 gallons per day. The Fowler Sewer Department is responsible for treating solid wastes, keeping up with their daily duties, installing new items, and making repairs and improvements. Daily duties of the department include measuring sludge depths in secondary and primary clarifiers, checking water seals on all pumps, checking operation and clean slip pipes on secondary clarifiers, measuring depth of digesters, checking operations of scum troughs on secondary clarifiers, draining water traps on gas piping in digester building, checking gas alarm in digester building, checking blower operation, checking digester gas mixing system, checking exhaust fan in chlorine building, checking chlorine and sulfur dioxide systems, checking operation and rake debris on mechanical and manual bar screens, checking operation of grit collector, and checking the operation of the automatic alarm dialer.
The Wastewater Treatment Department performs several types of tests on a daily basis. They test for: Biochemical Oxygen Demand- determines the "strength" of the wastewater. Total Suspended Solids- determines the amount of solid material in the wastewater. Ammonia- treated to minimize the growth of plants and algae in receiving stream. Phosphorus- treated to minimize the growth of plants and algae in receiving stream. Ph- determines the strength of acidity or alkalinity of the wastewater. Chlorine- used for disinfection process. E-coli- determines the level of disinfectant. Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids- operational test used in secondary treatment. Aeration tank Dissolved Oxygen- operational test used in secondary treatment.
If you have a sewer odor in your home, first look for the source in the bathrooms and kitchen. Pour a gallon of water down the shower drains and sinks that are not used often. If this does not solve the problem, call the Town at (765)884-0570 If you detect an odor outside your home, call the Town. Sewer Service Verification If you have a question about whether you are connected to the Town sewer or a septic tank, we can check our records for you. If we are unable to find the answer, we will do a dye or smoke test for verification. Call the Town at (765)884-0570 to arrange an appointment. Missing Manhole Covers If you discover that a manhole cover is missing, overflowing, or rattling, please call the Town immediately at (765)8824-0570 On a historical note, please feel free to take a look at the dedication plaque for the Fowler Wastewater Facility.
